User Approval Node

What is User Approval Node?

You can add this node in between two nodes whenever you have the organizational obligation to take approval from concerned stakeholders or self before taking any action on an AWS resource. When the stakeholder approves an email, the Workflow will automatically detect the command and run the next node accordingly.

Working with User Approval Nodes

The User Approval node is defined in the Workflow as follows:

  1. Go to the workflow editor, when you start a new workflow or select a new template
  2. If you start a new workflow:
    1. Click on the plus symbol
    1. Click on the 'edit' option in the User Approval node to access the parameters input window.
  3. If you select an existing template:
    1. Click on the 'edit' option in the User Approval node to access the parameters input window.
  1. Enter the authoriser's (yourself or a stakeholder or peer/team member) email ID and the message that needs to be sent automatically
  2. Click Save Node.
Note that an approval request expires within 24 hours.

What Happens in this Node?

When you use this node, an approval email will be sent automatically as per the conditions set by you. Here's how a sample email looks like:

When the stakeholder or the concerned user authorises the task by clicking Approve or Reject from the email, the Workflow will automatically detect the command and run the next node accordingly.

If the stakeholder clicks Reject, the workflow stops execution of the next node.

Usage Examples

1. Use this node to ask for permission before stopping instances that you fetched from previous node. Only upon receiving the Approval from this node, the instances will stop in the succeeding Action node.

2. Use this node to ask for permission to close open ports that you fetch from the previous node. Only upon receiving Approval from this node, the ports will close in the succeeding Action node.

3. Use this node to ask for permission to reduce the cluster size of ECS. Only upon receiving Approval from this node, the ECS cluster size will reduce in the succeeding Action node.
